Representatives from UNBA and SNV gave information on the usage and benefits of biogas, a Q&A session was conducted and there were also numerous possibilities to network with other sector stakeholders.
Amongst those attending were also representatives from donors and NGOs like GIZ and SNV, as well as a representative from the Ministry of Energy and mineral Development (MEMD).
“Instead of leaving food waste, sewage and animal dung to decay in the fields and later release methane gas which leads to global warming, we can turn the waste into cash but we need support,” Eng. Kato said.

Annual General Meeting
UNBA held its first Annual General Meeting on October 30th at Imperial Royale Hotel, Central Kampala.
Some thirty representatives of the member associations from all over the country gathered to review the work done and discuss and determine the way forward.
Amongst other topics, the delegates acknowledged the work of the outgoing National Executive Committee (NEC) under the leadership of Mr. Abdu K. Kalema. In order to review and update the actual constitution to the aims and objectives of the alliance, a Constitutional Review Sub-Committee was elected. Members of the NEC also presented the various promotional activities that have been conducted, e.g. the alliance’s new logo, website content and Facebook page.
Furthermore, an intensive discussion of proposals for the regionalization of the Uganda National Biogas Alliance as well as the review and ratification of the two years activity plan was conducted which paves the way for the activities ahead.
During the course of the recent General Meeting members of UNBA have also elected a new leadership with Mrs. Harriet Okoed Achom (IRBA) in lead. Further members are Eng. Christopher Kato (Vice Chairperson, UBA), Mr. Abel Karugaba (Secretary, WUBA), and Mrs. Mukhwana Halima (Treasurer, EUBA) as well as the committee members Mr. Paul Erimu (IRBA), Mr. Caleb Wakhungu (EUBA) and Mr. Gilbert Byamugisha (UBA).
We wish the new members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) all the wisdom and wittiness, time and strength they may need to succeed with the plans and activities that lie ahead. Although this might seem a challenge, the outgoing leadership headed by the chairperson Mr. Kalema paved the way for success by laying good grounds through their comprehensive and committed work for the alliance and its aims.
Good luck and success to the new team!
