UNBA participated in UNACC Clean Cooking Baraza

UNBA representatives delivered a presentation on household and commercial biogas at Kati Kati, Kampala

On Friday, July 29, the Uganda National Alliance on Clean Cooking (UNACC) hosted another Clean Cooking Baraza at Kati Kati restaurant in Lugogo, Kampala. About 80 interested stakeholders from the biogas and clean cooking sector gathered under the theme of the evening: “Clean cooking technologies; Household and commercial biogas.”.
IMG_1751-1Representatives from UNBA and SNV gave information on the usage and benefits of biogas,  a Q&A session was conducted and there were also numerous possibilities to network with other sector stakeholders.

Amongst those attending were also representatives from donors and NGOs like GIZ and SNV, as well as a representative from the Ministry of Energy and mineral Development (MEMD).

IMG_1744-1 During the discussion after a comprehensive presentation by Eng. C. Kato, the Vice Chairperson of UNBA, concerns were raised about the environmental state of the Nation and it was discussed what role biogas can play to reduce pollution, save money on fuels and boost businesses by producing cheap and clean gas; Just lately, another report by the UN Food and Agricultural Organisation indicated that Uganda loses 200,000 hectares forest annually. And 90 per cent of energy resource is currently generated from wood biomass – that is firewood and charcoal.
IMG_1730-1“Instead of leaving food waste, sewage and animal dung to decay in the fields and later release methane gas which leads to global warming, we can turn the waste into cash but we need support,” Eng. Kato said.
