Hydro Power Association of Uganda(HPAU) holds 6th AGM

The Hydro Power Association of Uganda held it’s 6th Annual General Meeting at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD) on 31st August 2022. Amidst the various hinderances including the unfortunate demise of Eng. Miiro Emmanuel Musoke and Eng. Emmy Matovu’s terminal illness, the HPAU Board was able to hold an AGM to reflect on past achievements and lay strategies for advancement of the association activities.

Mr. Dan Marlone Nabutsabi, the Vice-Chairman HPAU and HYPOSO Project Manager highlighted some of the projects in which HPAU engaged which generally resulted in increased energy access, capacity building and employment opportunities in Uganda.

Projects include;

  • HYPOSO Project: A three-year program funded by the Innovation and Networks Executive Agency of the European Commission, geared towards supporting market uptake of hydropower investments and exports from the European countries, within developing and emerging countries
  • The International Forum on Pumped Storage Hydropower (IFPSH): A government-led multi-stakeholder platform to shape and enhance the role of pumped storage hydropower in future power systems
  • We can, with hydropower: An evidence- based global campaign that highlights the many benefits that hydropower can provide to society developed responsibly and sustainably. These benefits include providing clean, affordable electricity generation and energy security for grids increasingly reliant on fast-growing solar and wind power.
  • International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD): A non-governmental International Organization founded in 1928 which provides a forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience in dam engineering.

HPAU looks forward to the Africa 2022 Conference, the 4th  International Conference and Exhibition on Water Storage and Hydropower Development for Africa which will take place at the Speke Resort Munyonyo Conference Centre, Lake Victoria, Uganda from 29 November – 1 December 2022. At the conference, a special session has also been scheduled specifically for the HYPOSO project to present on opportunities of small hydro power development in Uganda and the other target countries.

Alongside the Africa 2022 conference, the HPAU also plans to host the Workshop for Framework Conditions, under the HYPOSO project. This workshop targets policy makers, local authorities, financing institutions and project developers and investors, among others. The purpose is to discuss and facilitate national investment-friendly climates for hydro power development.

UNREEEA and the Hydro Power community nationwide extends great appreciation to the work done by the Hydro Power Association of Uganda
